Sidewalk Leveling Without the Demolition

Sidewalks are an important part of our daily lives, and when uneven, create potential dangers. Many homeowners have been held liable because they didn’t repair their dangerous sidewalks. There is no need to remove the entire walkway to fix this. Our sidewalk leveling process provides a way to raise settled slabs into place in a matter of hours without the expense of replacing the entire walkway.

Causes of Uneven Sidewalks in Pocatello

  • Tree roots: Tree roots grow under a panel pushing it upwards. Once the Tree root dies or gets cut, the soil settles and the slab falls.
  • Soil erosion: Water from rain runoff erodes the fine particles of the compacted base under the concrete creating voids.
  • Poor original compaction: Sidewalks installed on loose fill continue to settle as the dirt is compressed over time under weight loads.
  • Freeze-thaw cycles: Our repeated freezing and thawing winters cause the Soil to swell and shrink. This causes the panel to shift out of its place.
  • Utility work: Trenches dug for Utility services such as water, sewer or gas and then hurriedly back filled tend to settle continuing to pull the sidewalk down with it.

Our Sidewalk Repair Process

1
Free estimate: We will provide you a free walk-through estimate of your sidewalk panel(s), determine how much each panel has settled, identify why they settled, and provide you with a written estimate of the cost.
2
Small access holes: To allow us to pump under the panel we will drill a couple of holes through the panel. We will drill these holes at the best location to allow us to control the raising/lifting of the panel.
3
Pump and lift: Once we have completed drilling the holes, we will begin pumping a solution under the panel. As we pump more under the panel, it begins to rise and we carefully watch to ensure a smooth transition between panels.
4
Patch and finish: After completing raising/lifting your sidewalk panel(s), we will fill the holes we drilled with a mixture to match the original cement. We will also clean up any excess material left behind.

Repair Costs Compared to Replacement Costs

  • Replacing a standard residential panel (approximately 4 x 8 feet) can cost anywhere from $600 to $1200 or higher depending upon whether you include removal, disposal, forming, etc., plus new concrete.
  • If your panel is still structurally sound, we can usually lift and level it for $250 to $650.
  • Replacement requires at least a week’s curing time prior to allowing foot traffic; whereas, leveling allows you to walk on your sidewalk immediately after completion.
  • Replacements send old concrete to landfills; while leveling retains your existing panel.

Commercial Sidewalk Leveling

As a business owner, you have additional reasons to consider uneven sidewalks. Your business' compliance with ADA regulations, customer safety, and liability are all at stake. An uneven sidewalk entry or a low area along a parking lot path poses risks to your customers. We serve commercial properties throughout Pocatello, Idaho, by providing solutions for uneven sidewalks quickly and can usually arrange repairs outside normal business hours minimizing disruption of foot traffic to your property.
